Atlantic Puffin
My photography work of the Atlantic Puffins has taken place at different locations
RSPB Bempton Cliffs, Farne Islands & Lunga (Treshnish Isles).
In the non breeding season, the Puffins are black with white bellies and cheeks. In the breeding season, they have brightly-coloured bills, orange legs and very distinctive red and black eye markings.
The most common prey for UK Puffins is the sandeel, followed by sprat and herring.
Puffins typically nest underground in burrows dug in the soil of offshore islands or low densities in cracks in sheer cliffs.
A Puffin chick is called a Puffling.
Puffins are known as 'sea parrots' due to their brightly coloured bills and are mainly found on rocky coasts and offshore islands. They are also known as clowns of the sea.
Estimated 10% of the Puffin population breed in Britain & Ireland.
Puffins are listed on the Red List of UK Birds of Conservation Concern.
